Vietnam & Laos Self-Guided Bicycling Tours

Our self-guided cycling trips in Vietnam are for more independent and adventurous travelers who don't want or need full support, but do want to avoid the challenging issues of fully independent travel (in what you may have heard, is one of the world's most challenging destinations).

Comfortable Option: Trek 7300

These self-guided trips provide not only critical gear, including our imported Trek hybrid and mountain bikes, but support when needed, such as airport transfers, luggage transport (recommended), best accommodations for each budget, and domestic Vietnam airlines (we can also provide international airlines and visa on arrival services). Emergency medical and evacuation may be included in our fully-supported biking trips for an additoinal tour fees. During your trip you will enjoy the freedom of your own trip, but 24 x 7 access to our English-speaking or Western regional managers in Hanoi, Hoi An, and Saigon, who are only a phone call away as well as emergency medical clinics in Saigon and Hanoi, also with 24-hour emergency telephone numbers).

Pro Option: Trek Madone Carbon

The cycling routes we choose in Vietnam and maps we provide are unparalleled: the work of our "route master" Le Van Sinh, who has researched and ridden almost every route within the country while updating Lonely Planet's maps for Vietnam, and Patrick Morris, who has ridden over 20,000 miles in the country while planning and leading our trips continuously since 1994. We map our routes with GPS to provide as much accuracy as possible. Along with maps, our comprehensive pre-tour packet is loaded with materials to compliment your travels, such as reading and packing lists, activities and sites in each region, phrase and travel guide, and restaurant list. We can also pre-arrange special activities, such as private cooking demonstrations.

Also ask about our cross-border, Laos to Veitnam and Laos self-guided cyling trips.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring any gear? May I bring my own gear?
We provide helmets, handlebar bag, water bottles and any other the necessities you'll need aside from clothing. We can also mount your favorite seat and even pedals.

Mechanical support?
Since you will be without a follow vehicle or guide on bike, you should be able to change flats and capable of minimal troubleshooting. However, our route notes provide addresses and local contacts for repairs and emergencies.

How fit do I need to be?
These custom, self-guided trips can be leisurely or high mileage. During the planning process, we'll go back and forth with you to plan the perfect trip for your preferences, including how rigorous you'd like your trip to be.

Do you offer road bikes?
We have a few, check with us. In general, not all the roads of Vietnam are not suitable for road biking except for advanced cyclists. In addition, you will likely be mounting and dismounting frequently (which is easier on a hybrid) and the frequent dirt tracks leading off into villages and sights along the route are better suited for a hybrid.
