Turkey: More Information

TRAVEL ADVISORIES: The Turks are unfailing polite and welcoming, much as you would envision old world Italians must have been (before they got cars). Despite what the press may imply, Turkey is largely a pro-American country and Americans are always treated with respect and interest. The political strif, be it Kurdish seperatists, or mafia hoods setting off bombs are largely outside of the peaceful, tranquil existence along the rural coastal route we take. Tourists have rarely been the target of such activities and no Americans or Canadians have been victims of any such attacks.
LANDCOST: Based on double sharing (Includes domestic airfare. International airfare anot inclusive). Single supplement is extra. Your tour fees cover almost everything: comprehensive pre-tour package, airport pickup, van support, purified water, snack on the road, mechanical support, all breakfast, lunches and most dinners at our favorite places, internal airline, as well as what we think are the best, most interesting hotels.
RENTAL BIKES: Local mountain bikes are mounted with slicks. Most travelers have found these bikes good for the route, even though they are off-road bikes as the roads can be rougher chip and seal. We have handlebar bags, clips, straps, helmets, water bottles, pumps, tubes and provide full mechanical support. You are also welcome to bring your own pedals and seat which we will mount.
AIRLINES: Discount pricing through our consolidator on Lufthansa —approximately US$990 RT. Please call for specific pricing from your location. If you wish to use your United Airlines miles, Lufthansa is a partner airline and part of the Star Alliance.
NOTE: Turkey reaches far beyond the historical and scenic sites we offer on this itinerary and we encourage you to explore on your own at anytime during the tour. Day trips with the group and riding days are always optional. Additionally, we modify the itinerary to keep every tour unique and spontaneous.
GUIDES: Patrick Morris designed and refined this tour from 1994 to the present while leading over a dozen trips. Sonja Grau lives and leads bicycle and kayak tours out of Dalyan, Turkey. Todd Hanson, a UC Berkeley graduate in literature, is based in San Francisco and has lead this tour four times before.
CUSTOM TOURS: Almost all of our trips are private, custom trips for two or more people. Contact us for more information.

COMMENTS: "I wanted to let you know that we had a great bike trip in Turkey. The guides, Sonjia and Todd and the two other people that assisted us were just fine. Always willing to help and to take care of our needs. The scenery in the area of Turkey were we biked is fantastic, hard to think of a more beautiful place. The Turkish people are delightful. Hope to go on another trip with Veloasia in the future." - Gus Montana, M.D.

"Here are a couple of photos that I think capture some of the feeling of the Turkey adventure — we really had a great time...Todd was terrific, and the support staff did their very best to make everyone happy and make things go smoothly." - Richard Gilmore
