Cycling in Mai Chau, Vietnam

Hanoi Bach Ninh Countryside Tour: Itinerary

INTRODUCTION ITINERARY

This cycling daytrip cuts through the richest farmland in the north of Vietnam, crisscrossed by the many canals of the Red River Delta. The rich scenery rolls by as you bicycle between the fields of rice, maize, tomatoes, cabbages, and mulberry. Traditional rice villages abound and we'll stop to park our bikes and meet families of the area.

We'll also visit a village where they grow mulberry worms, which are fed with mulberry leafs. After twenty days the worms transform into silk moths which build cocoons. It is from these cocoons that villagers produce silk. The footpaths are tranquil and provide scenic cycling (left).

Bach Ninh is unique in Vietnam as it is here that Buddhism came to Vietnam, even earlier than to China. Over two thousand years ago, the first monks from Tibet came to Vietnam to preach Buddhism, which took center in Bac Ninh region. At the beginning of the trip, your guide will lead you through ancient villages and visit its pagodas, temples, and communal houses that existed form this period. In the late afternoon, return to Hanoi fro dinner.

Lunch with a local family or in cafe is included on this trip.
